First issue I was not aware of is that Intel X79 chipsets are not currently supported by Nvidia to run at PCIe Gen3 speeds. OEM distributed drivers allegedly allowed PCIe Gen3 speeds but official Nvidia drivers do not. I believe this will be fixed rather soon and is a mute point for the most part. Next, the current Asus GPU tweak software (as of 3June) appears to be causing many users issues to include a Red Screen of Death (RSOD). I experienced these issues and they were resolved immediately by uninstalling the Asus software. The bigger issue is that overclocked 670's in general at this point are like playing the lotto. I ordered two and one runs great while the other could not complete any benchmark at factory speeds without crashing and will be returned. Before figuring this out, I read many forums with users reporting the same situation. Underclocking the card will make it stable, but I paid for a card that is guaranteed to... Asus set the clock too high on this card and it WILL crash if you loop Heaven or game for hours on a graphics intensive game. I've owned 2 of these cards. One was dead on arrival and the other I just returned to Newegg because I kept crashing at STOCK SETTINGS in Heaven. Asus did not test these cards, I can't believe they released this faulty product. Check Newegg's reviews, I'm not the only one that had a problem with this card.Pros : Silent card even at 80% fan speed Cons : Crash at stock settings Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: ASUS GeForce GTX 670-DC2T-2GD5 VGA - 1137 MHz Boost Clock - 2GB GDDR5 - GPU Tweak - PCIE 3.0 Graphics Card Graphics Cards GTX670-DC2T-2GD5 (Personal Computers) This ASUS is a replacement for my 6950 (unlocked to 6970) and I have to say that it is better in every single way... I cannot find a real con (perhaps the price is high, but you do get what you pay for here). This ASUS performs better than my previous card with virtually no fan noise. Those that know the 6950 know that the fan noise above ~50% becomes painfully obvious, and given how hot those cards run under load (often going as high as 80-90C for me), high fan speeds were a must. With this ASUS, I am staying below 65C under load with virtually silent fan noise. Moreover, I am getting better fps! I am using a triple monitor setup and I was initially hesitant to switch away from AMD, but now that the NVIDIA 6 series has triple monitor support off of a single card, I decided to make the plunge. I highly recommend this card - it is lightning fast, uses about 100 less watts at full load, runs 20C cooler at load, is practically silent at load... and is... Read more |
